Our biggest wins were our fruit trees.  We have dwarf nectarine and peach trees as well as a dwarf lime, lemon and orange.  We've upgraded it further this year and now have two coffee plants and three different apples.  We have three blueberry bushes as well.  Our backyard is quite shaded and rocky, so we have most things growing in pots. This week Miss 4 and I will be out in the garden planting some herbs and seeds. It's not cost effective to buy herbs for every recipe. Especially when basil is $3 for a bunch, so we need to get our herbs established as soon as we can. I plant herbs in our balcony planter boxes to access them easily as they are on the same level as our kitchen.

We're also planning some rocket, lettuce and some tomatoes. Along with the potatoes we've planted already we are hoping for at least some of our fruit and vegetables to come from our garden.
Miss 4 loved tending her garden and looking after the plants. But the best bit was picking the fruit and eating it. Growing your own is such a great way to inspire kids to eat more fruit and veg.
We took a recent trip to Eden Garden Centre at Macquarie Park to get some inspiration. Their veggie patch setup was amazing, I hope that sometime in the future we can aspire to a veggie patch as great as theirs!
Here's some shots from last years veggie haul to keep me accountable this year!
